EFB Start/Stop Technology
EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) technology is designed for vehicles that place greater cycling demands on the starter battery. In a Start/Stop vehicle, the engine can automatically switch off when the vehicle is stationary while the battery continues supplying electrical equipment. When the driver moves away, the battery must provide sufficient current to restart the engine, potentially repeating this process many times during a single journey.
The Bosch S4E05 is engineered to withstand these repeated starting, partial-discharge and recharge cycles more effectively than a conventional flooded starter battery, while also providing the strong cold-cranking performance required for dependable everyday vehicle starting.
Type 027 Fitment
The Bosch S4E05 uses the popular Type 027 / L2 format measuring approximately 242 × 175 × 190mm. Conventional flooded, EFB and AGM batteries can all be available in this physical footprint, so dimensions alone should not be used to select a replacement. The battery technology specified by the vehicle manufacturer must also be matched correctly.
Important EFB Replacement Information
If your vehicle was originally equipped with an EFB battery, the replacement should be an equivalent EFB battery or an appropriate AGM upgrade where permitted by the vehicle manufacturer. A conventional flooded starter battery should not be used as a downgrade from EFB because it is not designed to withstand the same level of repeated cycling.
If the vehicle was originally equipped with an AGM battery, it should not normally be downgraded to EFB. Some modern vehicles may also require the replacement battery to be registered or coded to the vehicle's Battery Management System (BMS) following installation. Always check the vehicle manufacturer's requirements before fitting.
