Exide batteries have a long history, dating back to 1888 when W.W. Gibbs founded Exide’s predecessor company, the Electric Storage Battery Company. Exide batteries went on to power electric taxicabs in the early 1900s, and eventually powered Cadillac’s first battery-started internal combustion engine in 1912. In World War II, Exide batteries supplied submarine batteries to the U.S. Navy and other vehicles.
In recent years, Exide acquired Aker Wade Technologies which designs advanced charging systems for industrial forklifts.
